The app was most inspired by my anxious grandmother (1908 to 2003) the daughter of a New York Police Sergeant who worked before handheld two way radios. She insisted that as soon as my mother returned from a visit to her house that she call. Our immediate family lived 6 miles (about 10 kilometers away) from her in a very low crime area with slow side roads with houses about 100 meters apart from each other.
When my mother would call about her 15 minute, uneventful, usually daylight drive her mother would respond “Thank GOD you’re ok”. So for her counterpart worrier born, say, 45 years later, there’s Urgent Alert. No text means I’m fine.
